LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers activated left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia and optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius.
The 29-year-old southpaw landed on the IL on August 26, but his stint was retroactivated to August 23 with a right oblique strain. He made two rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, starting on September 3, striking out three in two innings.
Vesia has proven time and time again to be one of the most reliable arms in the Dodgers' bullpen, and in his 2025 campaign, he has pitched in 59 games and is 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA, striking out 11.87 hitters per nine. Vesia also pairs that with an xBA of .189 and a K% of 33, according to Baseball Savant.
The Dodgers had a difficult decision to make when it came to who would be optioned for Vesia on the roster, which ultimately landed on their most-used arm from their bullpen. The 26-year-old Casparius has pitched in 46 games in 2025, going 7-5 with a 4.64 ERA. He has pitched on the mound with Los Angeles for two seasons, recording a 9-5 record with a 4.40 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 86 innings.
In terms of the bullpen arms, along with Casparius, four arms had options in their contracts, including Edgardo Henriquez, Jack Dreyer, and Justin Wrobleski. In the end, the Dodgers decided to option Casparius, despite the difficulty and importance each arm provides.
