HARRISON NJ. -- The New York Red Bulls scored a touchdown of goals on the LA Galaxy and got their MLS Cup Final revenge by beating the current champs 7-0 at home on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

The result means Los Angeles is now the only team in Major League Soccer without a win after Montréal's 1-0 away victory.

The most lopsided scoreline in LA Galaxy history, it caused Head Coach Greg Vanney to collect his players on the pitch at full time to publicly admonish his team for their latest feat of ignominy.

From achieving the worst start in league history, to losing a match after conceding no shots, to conceding seven goals, to being winless, Vanney’s Galaxy have found no solutions and seem to have no way to stop the skid.

"Today we were shit and that's the end of that, and from start to finish, it just didn't -- it wasn't good. And you know, let's call a spade a spade. That was it,” Vanney shared in a post match press conference.

While the results haven’t been there for LA, they hadn't been severely outworked and outmatched during their horrid losing streak - until Saturday.

The Galaxy’s injury bug forced Vanney into a lineup and formation change, and they were off the pace from the opening whistle.

It made for easily the worst performance of the Galaxy’s already infamous and tumultuous season.

“There's other games through the course of the season where we played well and we just -- we either just made mistakes that hurt us or we didn't capitalize on moments that we needed to and that's the difference in results. The margins are thin. Tonight they weren't thin. Tonight they deserved -- they thoroughly beat us, and they deserved to win.”

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring for the hosts in the 7th minute with a composed-effort after combining well with Emil Forsberg to get into the box. Forsberg would turn goalscorer just six minutes later after being played in behind the Galaxy defense for the 2-0 scoreline.

Galaxy Striker Christian Ramirez had a golden chance to make the game 2-1 after finding himself one-on-one with Red Bulls Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel just moments later, but shot yards over the crossbar.

It was the first of several misses throughout the evening that the forward should have done better with.

Choupo-Moting effectively put the match out of reach by completing his brace in the 31st minute to put New York up 3-0.

Not content, the Red Bulls hung four more goals on the Galaxy in the second half.

Forsberg opened the second frame by scoring a lovely, curling free kick that finished demoralizing the Galaxy.

Cameron Harper and Dennis Gjengaar would add New York's fifth and sixth goals, with even Galaxy Left Back Miki Yamane getting in on the action with an own goal.

“It is the lowest point. For some of us, all of us, I would say, it's the lowest point in our careers,” Ramirez confessed post match after opening his interview by apologizing to the Galaxy’s traveling fans.

“To be wearing this shirt and be in the position we're in, hurts and it should hurt and we should be ashamed and embarrassed. There's only one way out of this. We have to somehow get through.”

Greg Vanney’s Future

LA's humbling will have done little to help their embattled coach.

Vanney is currently in the last year of his contract and is in negotiations with the team about a renewal.

Instead of a renewal, however, in the wake of the reigning champion’s latest history-making feat, it was briefly reported that the fifth-year coach would be relieved of his duties as Galaxy manager.

While nothing is official at the moment and he remains in his post, Vanney and LA have just days to find answers.

They play again away at Philadelphia in a Wednesday midweek match that will test their character, fitness, and roster.

Galaxy Midfielder Edwin Cerrillo will be unavailable for LA against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, May 14, due to yellow card accumulation.

With several key players like Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil out injured and others, like Edwin Cerrillo, missing out through yellow card accumulation, the Galaxy will be hard pressed to find a result against the Union.

“We've got to find a balance,” Vanney answered when asked about how he would approach LA's next match against Philadelphia.

“I don't have the answer for you right now. It will come in the next couple days as we prepare the group.”

If results don't start turning in the Galaxy’s favor, Vanney might be left looking for more than answers - just five months after winning MLS Cup, he could be looking for a new job.
