After scoring three goals in the second period, the Anaheim Ducks ran away with a victory, 4-1, against the Nashville Predators Thursday night in Tennessee.
This was the first time since Mar. 1 that the Ducks took more than 30 shots in a game — against the Predators on Thursday, the Ducks tied in total shot attempts with 34.
John Gibson started the game in net for the Ducks, saving 33-of-34 shots. This is his first appearance since Mar. 5 after dealing with a lower body injury.
“I thought we were doing a good job everywhere,” Gibson said to the Victory+ broadcast after the game. “I thought maybe we started off a little bit slow, the first five, ten minutes. Really in the second period there, we got our offensive zone time and our rhythm there.”
Nashville forward Steven Stamkos got the scoring started seven minutes into the first period with a power play goal assisted by Filip Forsberg and Jonathan Marchessault.
Ducks defenseman Jackson LaCombe tied the game just over seven minutes into the second period with a wrist shot assisted by Mason McTavish and Brett Leason.
Six minutes later, the Ducks took the lead with a goal from Troy Terry, assisted by Trevor Zegras and Pavel Mintyukov.
After scoring his 18th goal of the season, Terry leads the team in points with 50.
The Ducks added to their lead with a Zegras goal, assisted by Drew Helleson and McTavish.
In the third period, the Ducks cemented the victory with an empty-net goal scored by Alex Killorn.
After beating the Predators in January and twice in March, Anaheim secured the season series sweep.
With the win, the Ducks improved their record to 30-31-8 on the season. They remain nine points out of a wild card playoff spot, and they would need to jump four teams in the standings to make it with 13 games left.
Next, the Ducks will return home to face the Carolina Hurricanes — who hold a 41-22-4 record for 86 points in the Metropolitan Division.
Puck drop is set for Sunday at 5 p.m.
