TEMPE, Ariz. – In the final game before the NBA All-Star break, the San Diego Clippers (7-10) took on the Valley Suns (11-9) at Mullet Arena and lost, 119-107.
The first quarter was a-typical of the Clippers, scoring a whopping 41 points, and going up 20 against the Suns, who only scored 21 points for the quarter.
Valley slowly chipped their way back into the game however, really striking in the third. They outscored San Diego 36-20 in that frame.
Jordan Miller was active for San Diego in the matchup, scoring 23 points. Low efficiency plagued him however, only shooting 5-23, and 1-11 from beyond the arc.
San Diego did have six players in double-figures, but it wasn’t enough to stop Valley, who was led by Oso Ighodaro with 20 points. The comeback continued for the Suns into the fourth, where they again outscored the Clips’ 33-21, which gave them the decisive double-digit victory.
Unsurprisingly, three-point shooting plagued the Clippers, going 11-45 (good for 24.4%) compared to Valley’s 19-51 (37.3%).
The team now has 11 days off before their next matchup, due to the break provided by NBA All-Star weekend. The team has some connection to do, which is a large part of the G League finesse – with all the roster changes and uncertainty from game-to-game, building a roster with chemistry can prove difficult.
San Diego’s next matchup will be on Feb. 21 against the Salt Lake City Stars. This will be the final push through March to see if they can string together some wins, and sneak into the NBA G League Playoffs. The game will be played at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, with tip-off at 7 p.m. pacific.
