Despite goalie John Gibson’s 42 saves, the Anaheim Ducks fell, 3-0, to the Florida Panthers Saturday afternoon.
This is the third time the Ducks have been shut out this season — and all three have occurred within the past five games.
With the loss, the Ducks finished their six-game road trip with just three points and an overall record of 1-4-1. They were outscored by their opponents 24-8 during that span — inflated by a 6-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on the second game away.
“I thought the last four games of the road trip, we were right there,” said Ducks team captain and defenseman Radko Gudas. “I thought we had our chances to score goals, it was just unfortunate.”
The Panthers scored two of their goals at full strength and the third after Anaheim emptied their net.
Florida center Jesper Boqvist scored the first goal of the game midway through the second period, assisted by Tomas Nosek and Dmitry Kulikov.
Anaheim had two opportunities to get on the board first with a pair of power plays in the first period but proved unsuccessful. The Ducks are 0-10 on the power play during the road trip and have just converted on two in their last 31 attempts.
Goals from Anton Lundell and Gustav Forsling also extended the lead for the Panthers in the third period.
Ducks forward Isac Lundestrom left the game just over fifteen minutes into the first period after he was kneed by Panthers center Sam Reinhart — who was subsequently ejected.
With the loss, the Ducks fall to 18-22-6 on the season. They’ll play three straight games at home before going on the road again.
The Ducks will have a chance to bounce back against the Panthers when the two teams match up in Anaheim on Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
