The Vegas Golden Knights are convinced that they have found another late-round gem.
On Sunday, the Golden Knights announced that they have signed forward Alex Weiermair to a three-year, entry-level contract.
A native of Los Angeles, California, Weiermair was a sixth-round selection (186th overall) of the Golden Knights in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
Weiermair has been a part of the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks over the past two seasons, notching 121 points (53 goals, 68 assists) over 98 games played. His 75 points this season are currently 11th-most in the WHL. The 20-year-old also scored 23 points (10 G, 13 A) during the 2025 WHL playoffs, helping the Winterhawks reach the Western Conference Final.
Prior to his stint in the WHL, Weiermair played parts of two seasons with the University of Denver Pioneers, scoring eight points (three goals, five assists) in 33 games. He was also part of the team that won the NCAA Championship in the 2023-24 season.
Weiermair also played for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) and scored 49 points (25 G, 24 A) in 107 games played.
Similar to most Canadian junior players, Weiermair will likely finish the season with Portland before going pro, with a potential stint with the Henderson Silver Knights in the American Hockey League on the table once the Winterhawks’ season concludes.
