Bruce Cassidy asked for at least 40 minutes from the Vegas Golden Knights. He ended up getting zero.
On Sunday, nothing went right for the Golden Knights in what turned into a 5-0 blowout loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Despite controlling play for most of a fast first period, the Penguins would be the ones to take the lead early on with Ben Kindel winning a netfront battle.
Before the period was over, however, the Golden Knights received a serious scare. Taking a small hit from Penguins defenseman Kris Letang, Golden Knights forward Mark Stone left the ice and headed down to the tunnel with what appeared to be an upper body injury. He would not return for the rest of the game.
The Golden Knights would get even more bad news when Yegor Chinakhov doubled the lead on a goal Adin Hill would want to have back. Bryan Rust would follow up with a power play goal to put Vegas in a three-goal deficit for the second straight game.
Rickard Rakell would add to the Penguins’ lead with another power play goal, adding to Hill’s challenging day in goal.
The third period continued the punishment by way of Justin Brazeau, and the game would mercifully end with no goals and a lot of hard questions for the Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights get a back-to-back to right the ship, with Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres and Wednesday’s Detroit Red wings being the final games before Friday’s trade deadline.
