SAN DIEGO -- San Diego FC announced on Monday morning that head coach Mikey Varas signed a multi-year extension with the club.

“As I said, it's an honor to continue with the club for longer,” Mikey Varas said. “To keep working, giving my all in good times and bad.”

Initially joining SDFC back on Sept 16. 2024, the club's first-ever head coach will continue to lead the Azul y Chrome for the 2026 season and beyond, following an impressive first campaign in San Diego.

In his first year as a head coach in Major League Soccer, Varas’ SDFC topped the MLS Western Conference in their 2025 inaugural regular season, rewriting the record books with their side setting MLS expansion regular-season records for most points (63) and wins (19).

Following their first-place regular season finish in their debut season, SDFC continued their success with Varas on the touchline, securing three playoff victories before falling one match short of playing for the 2025 MLS Cup title, suffering an MLS Western Conference Final defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

SDFC’s historic finish in their league campaign under Varas also booked them a spot in the 2026 edition of the Concacaf Champions Cup, the annual and top continental club tournament in North America, kicking off in early February.
