Game Preview

The Lakers enter 11-4 for round two against the 5-10 Jazz, this time in Utah, after a four-day break from when these last two teams played back in L.A.

The Lakers got the best of the Jazz in that matchup in a second-half 140-126 win, a game in which Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves combined for 63 points and LeBron James had 11 points and 12 assists in his 23rd season debut.

This will be the Lakers' 10th road game of the season with a 7-2 road record. The Jazz are 4-4 at home this season, two of which were overtime games.

In their rare four-day break from games, the Lakers had three practices where they had all players on their roster available for the first time.

"Getting through this week healthy and getting through this week where we feel like we got better on some stuff but also broke up the monotony a little bit. It was good," coach JJ Redick said on Saturday.

The Lakers also had their own team pickleball tournament that involved multiple split-ups with players and coaches. Jake LaRavia and assistant coach Beau Levesque won the tournament, a tourney that Redick said was highly competitive and involved a lot of trash talking.

The Opponents' Leaders

Lauri Markkanen and Keyonte George gave the Lakers fits in their last matchup, with George going on a first-half heater that went cold in the second half as he finished with a team-high 34 points. The duo produced more than half of Utah's points with 65 combined.

Look for those two to continue their scoring punch, especially Markkanen, who ranks seventh in the NBA in scoring.

Injury Report

Lakers:

Deandre Ayton didn't practice on Saturday due to an illness but still traveled with the team and wasn't on the team's injury report for Utah, which only had two players on it.

Those two players were Bronny James and Adou Thiero, who were assigned to the G-League South Bay Lakers squad.

CLEAN SLATE!

Jazz:

  • Georges Niang (foot): Out

  • Walker Kessler (shoulder): Out

What to Watch

Building The Chem:

The Lakers' issue all season has been their lack of time together on the floor. With James back and everyone else on the roster at full participation, they will finally get their chance to build chemistry on the court that is heavily needed to win a championship.

Continuing Their Win Streak:

The Lakers come into Utah on a three-game win streak, following a five-game win streak earlier in the season, and they will look to keep it alive with four of their next five games at home.

Stacking Wins Before Big Road Trip:

After Utah, the Lakers' next four opponents at home (LAC, DAL, NOP, PHX) have a combined record of 22-45. They must stack wins against them, as they will head to a six-game road trip right after against notable East opponents in Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto.

Threads for the Game

The Lakers will rock their white threads on the road, while the Jazz will wear their purple icon edition unis.

Next Matchup

The Lakers will head back home for a Tuesday matchup against the Clippers in the first cross-town game of the season on Tuesday. It will be one of their four straight games at home.
