The Los Angeles Lakers head to Oklahoma City on Wednesday night for their biggest test of the season—a matchup with the 11–1 Thunder, who currently own the NBA’s best record.
The Lakers are 5-1 on the road this season, and Oklahoma City has yet to lose at home with a 5-0 record.
Luka Dončić powered the Lakers to a 121–111 victory in Charlotte on Monday, posting 38 points, five 3-pointers, and his first legit dunk—technically his second of the year.
Austin Reaves added 24 in his return from a three-game absence as L.A. improved to 8–3 and 2–1 on their current five-game road trip.
The win marked the Lakers’ sixth in their last seven games as they continue to build rhythm around Dončić, who’s averaging over 37.1, 9.4 rebounds and 9.1 assists in seven games played. The challenge now: sustaining that momentum against the defending champs that have been nearly flawless through the first month of the season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is putting up MVP numbers (again) for OKC, averaging 32.8 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds. Second-year center Chet Holmgren has emerged as a defensive anchor and versatile scorer, posting 19.6 points and 8.9 rebounds while leading the best defense in the NBA.
The Thunder enter Wednesday’s matchup on the second night of a back-to-back after a shorthanded blowout win against the Warriors with Luguentz Dort (shoulder), Jalen Williams (wrist), and Kenrich Williams (knee) all out. Expect some of those players to magically suit up against the Lakers.
OKC is on a three-game win streak and won eight straight to start the season, behind elite basketball on both ends, ranking as the No. 1 rated defense and No. 6 offense.

What to Watch
Dončić vs. Gilgeous-Alexander:
Two of the NBA’s most dynamic guards go head-to-head. Both control the tempo at their past and can take over late—this duel could and will decide the game.
Ayton vs. Holmgren:
Since his 29-and-10 outing against his former team (POR), Deandre Ayton has slowed down, posting under 15 points and less than seven rebounds in his last two games. His matchup against one of the league’s best shot-blockers in Holmgren will be one to keep an eye on as being an important piece to L.A.'s offense as their rim runner and screener.
Luka and Reaves's Firepower Needed for W:
The Dončić and Reaves backcourt are both averaging over 30 points each, and their elite offensive firepower, which has helped push the Lakers to the fourth-best record in the West, is going to be heavily relied on and needed to come out with a win in a hostile environment against OKC.
Threads for the Game
The Lakers will wear their purple statement edition jerseys, while the Thunder will sport their white Association uniforms.
Next Matchup
Los Angeles visits New Orleans on Friday before wrapping the five-game road trip in Milwaukee on Saturday.
