WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said Friday that starting offensive lineman Steve Avila is doubtful to play against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend, while defensive end Braden Fiske and tight end Colby Parkinson remain questionable.

Avila, who has been working back from an ankle injury, did not participate in practice and is unlikely to be available Sunday. McVay said the team will “leave the options open,” but emphasized it is “a little bit less likely” Avila will be ready.

Fiske and Parkinson were both limited participants Friday and are expected to take part in walkthroughs. “We’re hopeful that he’ll be ready to go,” McVay said of Fiske. “Same thing with Colby [Parkinson].”

In Avila’s absence, rookie Justin Dedich has stepped in at left guard. McVay praised Dedich’s approach and toughness. “He didn’t play it safe. He goes for it. He throws his hands. He’s a tough competitor,” McVay said. “He has a good understanding and ownership of what we’re trying to get done, whether that’s protection or in the run game. He’s done a good job.”

McVay also addressed the challenge posed by Philadelphia’s defensive front, led by standout tackle Jalen Carter. “You have to be aware of him, but they have impact players all over this defense,” McVay said. “That’s what makes them great. Jalen is excellent. I have a lot of respect for him going against him twice last year. They are the real deal.”

The Rams (2-0) will travel to Philadelphia to take on the the Eagles (2-0) on Sunday in a rematch of last season’s divisional playoff game, when Philadelphia’s defensive line pressured Matthew Stafford throughout. McVay said the staff has prepared for Carter’s presence but noted that the Eagles’ overall talent requires adjustments across the board.

As for whether he has seen other teams mimicking Philadelphia’s “tush push” cadence on film, McVay said it wasn’t something the Rams had focused on. “You could maybe pick that up if you watch the TV copy, but we haven’t talked about that,” he said.
