HENDERSON, Nev. – Las Vegas Raiders training camp continued on Tuesday, kickstarting perhaps the most action-packed week of the summer. The Silver and Black practiced indoors on Tuesday and will do so again on Wednesday, before heading outdoors for an open joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, ahead of the teams’ preseason clash at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.
Recent Transactions
The Raiders have brought two additional players into the fold this week, signing veteran safety Terrell Edmunds to a one-year deal on Sunday and practice squad journeyman wide receiver Marquez Callaway.
Edmunds, a 2018 first-round pick, spent the first five years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before brief stints in Philadelphia, Tennessee, Jacksonville and again most recently in Pittsburgh throughout the last two seasons.
“(I’m) coming in and just trying to be a sponge,” Edmunds said. “Trying to learn as much as I can. Wherever they want me to play, if they want to play dime, if they want me to play any safety. Wherever they want me to go, just go out there and help out the best way I can."
Callaway went undrafted in 2020 after a breakout season at the University of Tennessee in 2019 that saw him earn second-team All-SEC honors with 635 yards on 30 catches (21.6 yards per catch), along with six touchdowns. Callaway appeared in 47 games across four seasons in New Orleans, starting 17 games, including a career high 11 games in 2021.
Carroll’s Culture Already In Place
Coach Pete Carroll had a tall task when it came to rebuilding the culture of a 4-13 locker room, but every indication from the players so far suggests there’s been a large-scale buy-in to Carroll’s program. The culture that the 71-year-old has instilled has already left unique imprint on the group in camp.
“It is unique,” Edmunds said. “I played for some historic coaches, and he's just another one on the list. His culture that I'm involved in now, that's a little bit different. He's just excited. He's a high-energy guy in meeting rooms, at practice, you see him running up and down.”
For wide receiver and special teamer Collin Johnson, who’s fighting for a roster spot, the opportunity to be around Carroll is something that’s been beneficial for his training camp experience.
“I've never seen this amount of energy each and every day in everything, not just practice,” wide receiver Collin Johnson said. “The energy is just contagious, and it's something that I feel like a lot of us really just enjoy coming to work and enjoy the process of getting better.”
