LOS ANGELES — The New York Post is heading west.

The tabloid media company announced Monday it will launch The California Post, a new daily newspaper and digital media venture based in Los Angeles, in early 2026. The outlet will deliver news, sports, celebrity gossip and opinion with the New York Post’s trademark style, expanding its national reach with a full editorial operation on the West Coast.

Nick Papps, a veteran News Corp editor and former U.S. West Coast correspondent, will serve as editor-in-chief of the California Post. Keith Poole, editor-in-chief of the New York Post, will also oversee the California edition.

The California Post will include a print edition as well as a full suite of digital offerings, including a website, mobile app, video, audio and social content. Executives said the expansion was designed to bring a bold, unfiltered news voice to California’s largest media market during a stretch that includes the 2026 World Cup, the 2026 U.S. Senate and gubernatorial elections, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

One of the most anticipated features of the expansion is the arrival of the New York Post’s iconic and often irreverent sports back page, which will now have a West Coast counterpart. The tabloid's back page has become a cultural staple in New York sports media, and Los Angeles teams will soon receive the same brash treatment.

“This is about attitude, energy, and tapping into a huge appetite for common-sense journalism in California,” said Robert Thomson, CEO of News Corp.

The New York Post, founded in 1801, has been profitable since 2022 and has grown into a digital powerhouse with tens of millions of monthly readers across the country. California represents its second-largest audience base after New York. The company believes The California Post can capitalize on that existing readership while carving out a unique identity in Los Angeles.
