HARRISON, N.J. — The New York Red Bulls handed the LA Galaxy their most lopsided defeat in club history on Saturday night, cruising to a 7-0 win in front of 23,225 fans at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Led by braces from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Emil Forsberg, New York put the game out of reach early with three goals in the opening 31 minutes, then tacked on four more in the second half to complete the rout. Cameron Harper, Dennis Gjengaar, and an own goal by Miki Yamane capped a nightmare evening for a Galaxy squad that has now fallen to 0-9-3 on the season.
“We just got outplayed,” Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said postgame. “From start to finish, we were disconnected and indecisive. That’s not effort, that’s uncertainty.”
The Red Bulls struck first in the 7th minute when Choupo-Moting fired home a low shot after creating space at the top of the box. Forsberg doubled the lead in the 13th minute with a curling strike into the top corner and assisted Choupo-Moting again in the 31st. Forsberg added his second off a set piece in the 50th minute.
Harper made it 5-0 in the 68th, Gjengaar added another in the 88th, and Yamane’s errant back pass sealed the scoreline in stoppage time.
The Galaxy, missing Designated Players Riqui Puig, Gabriel Pec, and Joseph Paintsil, managed just six shots on goal and saw their winless start to 2025 extend into May.
Forward Christian Ramirez issued an emotional apology to traveling supporters after the match. “This is the lowest point in our careers,” he said. “It should hurt. We should be ashamed.”
LA will attempt to regroup as they travel to face the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park on Wednesday, May 14.
