LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers have now won five consecutive games, sweeping the Miami Marlins with a 12-7 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium in front of 47,192 fans.

The Dodgers’ offense continues to dominate the Marlins’ pitching staff, as Max Muncy hit his first home run of the season off right-hander Cal Quantrill. The impressive shot traveled 433 feet into the center field bleachers. It took Muncy 106 at-bats to hit his first.

Freddie Freeman contributed to the scoring with a two-run home run against right-hander Jesus Tinoco in the sixth inning. This marked Freeman's fifth home run of the season, raising his batting average to .319.

Mookie Betts got off to a great start the night before and continued his success on Wednesday afternoon. In the third inning, he hit a two-run single to left field. Then, in the sixth inning, Betts delivered a two-run triple. Another standout player, Andy Pages, contributed with an RBI single, extending the Dodgers' lead to 4-0. Pages has made an impressive turnaround, raising his batting average from below .100 to .298 over the past two weeks.

The Dodgers have been accumulating hits in this series, recording 12 on Monday, 18 on Tuesday, and 17 on Wednesday. Austin Barnes, who started at catcher, went 3-for-4 with three singles. Kike Hernandez had a 1-for-4 performance, including an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Shohei Ohtani led off the eighth inning with a triple and later scored on a wild pitch by Liarbert Arias. Ohtani finished the game with a 1-for-4 performance, while Teoscar Hernandez collected his 32nd RBI of the season, going 3-for-5 at the plate. Overall, the Dodgers scored a total of 34 runs during the series.

Right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin has not appeared in an MLB game since August 2023. In his last performance, he gave up five home runs and a career-high ten earned runs in just 3 ⅓ innings against the Miami Marlins, the same team he faced on Wednesday afternoon.

Gonsolin, 30, wrapped up the 2023 season with an 8-5 record and a 4.98 ERA. This performance came after what was his best season to date in 2022. That year, Gonsolin earned a selection to the All-Star Game, starting the season undefeated with an impressive 11-0 record and a 2.02 ERA. He finished the season with a career-best record of 16-1 and a 2.14 ERA over 24 starts.

The Dodgers had high hopes for similar results in 2023, but the season fell short as his year ended early due to Tommy John surgery. Additionally, Gonsolin began the season on the injured list with an ankle sprain, and he never returned to his previous form.

A year and a half later, he faced the same team once again. He pitched six innings, allowing six hits and three runs. The magic was in his delivery, as he struck out nine batters without issuing any walks. The return of Gonsolin was crucial for the Dodgers after they placed several pitchers on the injured list. With Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell unavailable for at least a month, Gonsolin could handle the innings alongside Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Dustin May.

The Dodgers' bullpen secured a 15-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday, with Matt Sauer contributing by pitching five strong innings and Hernandez closing out the game in the ninth inning. Additionally, Gonsolin covered some extra innings to give the bullpen a rest ahead of their long road trip.

Kyle Stowers hit an 80 mph curveball from Gonsolin deep over the center field wall for a two-run home run. He wasn't done there; he also crushed another home run in the ninth inning. Stowers had an impressive game, going 4-for-4 with a single, a double, and two home runs, driving in the Marlins' first four runs. It was in the ninth inning that the Marlins added their final three runs with a bases-loaded double to right field by Liam Hicks.

During their recent home stand, the Dodgers recorded a 5-1 record, winning their last five games and improving their overall record to 15-3 at Dodger Stadium. They are now heading on the road for a stretch of 10 games, which includes three in Atlanta, three in Miami, and four in Arizona. Although the Dodgers have struggled somewhat on the road with a 6-7 record so far, they aim to carry the momentum from their recent success, having scored 34 runs in their last three games.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto (3-2, 1.06 ERA) will start for the Dodgers on Friday night, while the Braves will go with Grant Holmes (2-1, 4.50 ERA) to begin the three-game series.
