SEATTLE -- The losing streak continued for the Los Angeles Angels as they were defeated, 5-3, by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Park. With their fourth consecutive loss, the Angels are now 12-16 and 7-12 on the road.
Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz took the mound for his sixth start of the season and got off to a shaky start through his first couple of innings. A single and a pair of walks allowed the Mariners to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, but he managed to escape without a run allowed thanks to a forceout at home and a pair of popouts to third base.
More trouble materialized in the second, however, as Jorge Polanco battled back from down 0-2 in the count to blast a three-run homer that got Seattle out in front early.

It was the sixth homer allowed by the 24-year-old this season, which is tied for fourth-most among starters in baseball. Kochanowicz did manage to do a much better job throughout the remainder of his evening as he settled down and allowed just two more baserunners through his final four innings, exiting with six strikeouts.
Despite a strong close to the outing, he took the loss to drop to 1-4 with a 5.29 ERA this season. Kochanowicz has now lost four starts in a row, with his last victory coming on April 5.
Even with a new arm in the game for Los Angeles, Polanco still found a way to cause even more damage. He hit his second home run of the day to make it 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh off Jose Fermin, who lasted just 1/3 of an inning as he allowed three hits and walked one.
The Angels had finally gotten on the board in the top half of the frame thanks to a solo home run from Logan O'Hoppe, his eighth of 2025. He trails only Mike Trout for the team lead.

Los Angeles plated runs once again in the eighth as they made their best attempt at a late-game rally. Zach Neto led off the inning with a double before Nolan Schanuel traded places with him via a double of his own to make it 5-2. Following a pair of untimely strikeouts from Mike Trout and Taylor Ward, Jorge Soler grounded a double through the left side to cut the deficit to two.
O'Hoppe then popped out to first base as the side was retired with the Halos still down 5-3. They would go down 1-2-3 in the ninth as Seattle closer Andres Munoz notched his 11th save of the year to get the Mariners to 17-12.
The two squads will meet for the series finale on Wednesday afternoon to cap off a quick two-game set. Left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-0, 2.60 ERA) will toe the rubber for Los Angeles against Seattle right-hander Emerson Hancock (1-1, 7.71 ERA).
