The Chargers selected Omarion Hampton, running back from North Carolina, with the 22nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hampton has the ability to be a short-yardage back as well as popping big plays in the run game through his physicality. Alongside Najee Harris, Hampton can make this run game dynamic and difficult to prepare for with his combination of power and speed. The duo's combined ability to break tackles will wear defenses down and create softer shells for Herbert to pass into.
As far as the passing game, Hampton can create big plays after the catch on screens and swing routes. He is a dynamic back who can fully commit to a power running game if that is what the game or situation calls for. Hampton's gravity will bring the defenses down with more players in the box, which will open up throwing lanes, favorable matchups, and deep shots for Herbert and the Chargers' receivers.
In the second round, the Chargers will no doubt look for more weapons in the receiving corps and tight end room for Herbert to throw to, with many going off the board early. On the defensive side of the ball, the loss of Joey Bosa and the lack of depth on the interior of the defensive line definitely warrants some attention as well.
