LOS ANGELES – Freddie Freeman is out of the lineup on Monday against his former team, the Atlanta Braves, after twisting his ankle when he fell in his shower at home on Saturday, Dave Roberts announced.

Roberts mentioned that he slipped while entering his bathtub, which caused his ankle to swell. Freeman was at Dodger Stadium on Sunday receiving treatment to reduce the swelling. Although Freeman felt ready to play on Monday, Roberts opted to be cautious and decided not to push the 35-year-old to participate in the game.

“He had a little mishap in the shower, entering the shower bathtub,” Roberts said.

Freeman tweaked the surgically repaired ankle he injured late in the regular season, which ultimately impacted his performance during the postseason, despite him being named the World Series MVP. The ankle injury he sustained last season should have kept him sidelined for at least four to six weeks. However, Freeman chose to compete regardless of the circumstances, as he is accustomed to pushing through challenges.

Roberts stated that he has only seen Freeman feeling incapable of playing once, which occurred during last season's NLCS.

The Dodgers are undefeated in the 2025 season and don't feel pressured to rush Freddie Freeman back into the lineup. Kiké Hernández, who is returning from a similar illness to the one Mookie Betts recently experienced, will start at first base on Monday.

Freeman has participated in three games this season, posting a batting average of .250, along with two home runs and four runs batted in. Roberts mentioned that Freeman is currently listed as day-to-day since the injury is not as serious as they initially believed.
