LOS ANGELES -- Darcy Kuemper and the Los Angeles Kings shutout the Washington Capitals 3-0 on Thursday night, moving the Kings temporarily into second place in the Pacific Division.
The game's opening goal and what would be the game-winning goal came from winger Warren Foegele seven minutes into the contest. After a puck bounced in front of the net, Foegele sent two jabs at the puck sitting in front of Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren before it finally crossed the goal line.
The Kings would strike twice during the third period, first on the power play from winger Kevin Fiala. A great no-look pass from captain center Anze Kopitar set Fiala up for a one-timer on the far circle to put L.A. up 2-0.
The final goal of the night came from center Quinton Byfield. After a great forecheck, Fiala and Byfield were left on a two-on-one where Fiala would pass to Byfield to make the score 3-0.
Kuemper finished the night with 21 saves en route to his 34th career shutout and third this year.
With the Kings now one point ahead of the Edmonton Oilers in the Pacific Division, they will face off next against the Nashville Predators on Saturday at 5 p.m.
