PITTSBURGH -- In a thrilling matchup at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins edged out the Vegas Golden Knights with a 3-2 overtime victory. The game-winning goal came just 49 seconds into overtime, courtesy of defenseman Erik Karlsson, who capitalized on a drop pass from Evgeni Malkin.

Captain Sidney Crosby was instrumental in the Penguins' offense, netting two goals, including a power-play tally. His first goal came late in the first period, set up by Rickard Rakell, giving Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. Crosby extended the lead early in the second period with a skillful maneuver through the slot, beating Vegas goaltender Ilya Samsonov.

The Golden Knights responded with determination. Pavel Dorofeyev scored a power-play goal in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. In a dramatic finish to regulation, defenseman Noah Hanifin blasted a shot past a screened Tristan Jarry with just 6.7 seconds remaining, forcing overtime.

Despite being outshot 37-17, the Penguins showcased resilience and efficiency. Goaltender Tristan Jarry delivered a stellar performance with 35 saves, marking his second consecutive win since being recalled from the AHL. This victory signifies a positive shift for Pittsburgh, now with back-to-back wins following a challenging stretch.

The Penguins' penalty kill was tested early, successfully defending against three first-period penalties. However, they found their rhythm as the game progressed, with Crosby's leadership and Karlsson's overtime heroics sealing the win.

For the Golden Knights, the loss marked a continuation of their struggles in Pittsburgh, where they hold a 1-5-1 all-time record. Both Hanifin and Dorofeyev contributed a goal and an assist each, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Penguins' timely scoring and Jarry's goaltending.

The Penguins will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push towards the playoffs, while the Golden Knights aim to rebound in their upcoming games.
