SAN DIEGO -- Colombia took home the bronze medal on the final matchday at the 2025 SheBelieves Cup after taking down Australia 2-1 at Snapdragon Stadium on Wednesday night.

With a third-place finish on the line in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, Australia and Colombia came into the final matchday in search of their first points to complete their tournament run with silverware.

With debut appearances for the Australian and Colombian women’s national teams in the SheBelieves Cup competition, both teams looked for their first points, first-ever victory in the competition and to claim their first medal.

Both nations saw defeat in their previous first two matches of the tournament.

2025 SheBelieves Cup Matchday 1&2 Results:

Matchday 1, Feb. 20 at Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, Texas:

  • Japan 4, Australia 0
  • USWNT 2, Colombia 0

Matchday 2, Feb 23 at State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona

  • Japan 4, Colombia 1
  • USWNT 2, Australia 1

After the first two matchday losses, both nations find themselves level in almost every category standing at zero points, a negative five-goal difference, one goal scored and six goals conceded.

Australia held third place coming into the match due to their tiebreaker of a greater fair play score accumulating only one yellow card with Colombia tallying up four yellow cards in the first two matches.

A draw could’ve been enough for the Matildas to clinch that third-place bronze medal, but it all will depend on the finishing total of yellow and red cards collected concluding their final match as the three-match fair play score would take effect.

After dominating possession in the first 15 minutes of the first half, the Colombians attacked the Australian backline and goalkeeper as Teagan Micah made a one-handed save to prevent an opening goal.

Colombia broke through at the 15-minute mark with a long through ball from their half by forward Mayra Ramirez found forward Wendy Bonilla wide open on the right wing.

Dribbling into the box and firing a right-footed strike off the post into the net, Bonilla gave Colombia the early 1-0 lead.

The Matildas fired themselves back into the match in the second half with a 69-minute goal by Australian forward Hayley Raso.

Defender Charlotte Grant placed a cross into the box, landing on the feet of Raso as she took a shot bouncing off a Colombian defender landing into the goal equalizing the game 1-1.

It only took four minutes for the Colombians to take back the lead coming off a Catalina Usme outside-of-the-box shot that had a massive Australian deflection causing the ball to loop over Teagan Micah and into the net making the match 2-1 with less than 20 minutes remaining in regular time.

The match finished at that 2-1 scoreline as the Colombian victory pushed them into 3rd place with three points claiming the bronze medal in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.

The Matildas failed to earn a point in their 2025 SheBelieves Cup campaign.
