They Not Like Russ: Westbrook hosts free basketball Camp at Jesse Owens Park taken in Los Angeles (Los Angeles Clippers)

LOS ANGELES -- Russell Westbrook hosted his annual Why Not? Foundation Basketball Camp for ages 8-11 and 12-14 on July 31 and August 1. Campers received hands-on, unique training from the nine-time All-Star and experienced coaches. To conclude camp, campers received certificates of honor for their effort, teamwork, and growth, as well as a special "Why NOT?" award. Chick Fil-A was provided for more than 70 campers.

Westbrook continues to devote himself to the city of Los Angeles with various philanthropic and community outreach efforts through his Why Not? Foundation (a mantra of empowerment), which instills confidence and resiliency in underserved communities through education, training, advocacy, and paths to success.

One of the foundation's most reputable and anticipated efforts is its annual basketball camp at Jesse Owens Park in Los Angeles, where the Denver Nuggets guard and future Hall of Famer cut the ribbon to inaugurate what is now known as the Russell Westbrook Community Court last November.

In addition to renaming the court the Russell Westbrook Community Court, the hometown hero has established this location as a place where the community can feel valued and acknowledged. Whether it's hosting a Thanksgiving Food Distribution event and distributing 1,000 meals to low-income families, or providing a remarkable opportunity for inspired athletes to learn from one of the best point guards in NBA history.

Westbrook has always talked candidly and compassionately about his upbringing  in Los Angeles. On multiple occasions, the UCLA alum has professed his love for the city while highlighting the importance of his foundation's objectives and resources in addressing the socioeconomic challenges that so many people in the community endure.

What began with basketball has grown beyond comprehension. But it is through basketball that Westbrook is felt by fans all over the world, which is why it is so dear to the Los Angeles community to be chosen by such an impactful person and athlete. Not only does he talk the talk, but he also walks the walk, assisting and contributing when needed. His presence pervades the city of Los Angeles.
