UCLA Bruins training camp: Key positions to watch as camp opens taken at UCLA (UCLA)

LOS ANGELES -- The DeShaun Foster era is set to begin as UCLA opens its camp Wednesday. With a new conference on the horizon and the fifth-hardest schedule in the entire nation Foster brings on a revamped coaching staff, including the addition of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, there's much to look forward to. Here are three key positions to keep an eye on:

Toia leads defensive line

UCLA's biggest win during the spring was the return of defensive lineman Jay Toia. After entering the transfer portal, Toia decided to return to Westwood, providing a significant boost to the defensive front. His 28 tackles, four for loss, and a sack last fall will be much needed for a defense that is expected to find its identity as key veterans like Kain Medrano and Femi Oladejo return to bolster the Bruins line backer group.

While UCLA boasts offensive weapons capable of competing with anyone in the Big Ten, questions remain about the offensive line and the defense. The departure of defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn will certainly be missed. The addition of K.J. Wallace should add some depth to the Bruin’s secondary.

Quarterback position solidified

The offense will be led by Ethan Garbers, who is supported by a talented cast of playmakers. The starting job is Garbers' to lose, with Justyn Martin and sixth-year senior Chase Griffin vying for the backup role. Garbers, a once highly regarded pro-style quarterback from Newport Beach, will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the Big Ten stage. After five-star quarterback Dante Moore struggled and left the program via the portal, Garbers emerged as the go-to guy, finishing last season with a 67.1% completion rate, 1,136 yards, and 11 touchdowns. The reigning LA bowl MVP looks to prove that he can hold his own in the Big 10.

Wide receiver corps loaded

The wide receiver corps is both talented and versatile. Key transfer Rico Flores Jr. joins via Notre Dame, while Titus Mokiao-Atimalala, who is receiving major praise during spring practice, looks to break out after not playing last season. Logan Loya, who led the Bruins in first downs last season, and NFL draft prospect J. Michael Sturdivant round out the group. Sturdivant, with his 4.3 blazing speed and deep-threat capabilities, will keep Big Ten corners on their toes.
