ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Angels July woes remain after losing the opener of a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night at Angel Stadium.

The Angels offense scored zero runs with five hits and left nine batters on base in tonight’s 11-0 loss. Angels No.7 overall prospect, right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, made a rocky MLB debut.

Kochanowicz lasted three innings, giving up a total of five runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Four of his first five runs came in the first inning.

Two of the runs came from a throwing error by third baseman Luis Guilorme. Kochanowichz's next two runs came from a Ty France single to center field, quickly putting the Angels behind.

In the second, Kochanowicz got himself out of the inning in 13 pitches. In the third, he gave up a leadoff home run to Cal Raleigh, who gave the Mariners a 5-0 lead. Raleigh went 3 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs.

In the first inning, Angels manager Ron Washington noticed that Kochanowicz’s sinker needed adjustments as he was leaving it too high in the middle of the plate.

“I was just letting him know, welcome to the big leagues, you gotta make some adjustments," Washington said. "You should be proud of the fact that you stood out there and battled.

"It was an experience for him. The ball was moving, but it was starting too high but kind of in the middle of the plate.”

After his performance, Washington reminded Kochanowicz to continue to trust himself and not let himself get in his head.

“Obviously it wasn’t exactly what I wanted but it was continuing to trust myself was the main thing and not doing too much in my head but trust myself,” Kochanowicz said.

In the fourth inning, recently recalled reliever Kenny Rosenberg made his season debut just one night after being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake. Rosenberg wasn't much better as gave up six runs, eight hits, three walks and struck out four batters.

Although Rosenberg's performance on the mound didn't keep them in the game, he did provide some relief for an exhausted Angels bullpen that had little help available.

The Angels offense had an opportunity to score in the seventh with the bases loaded. However, Nolan Schanuel lined out of a ball that was hit perfectly to Mariners second baseman Dylan Moore.

The loss dropped the Angels to 2-8 in July. They will play the second game of the series at 6:38 p.m. Friday.
