The U.S. men’s national team officially unveiled its roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, locking in the squad that will attempt to deliver the country its first championship in the world’s biggest soccer tournament.
Despite a roster headlined by stars such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Folarin Balogun and goalkeeper Matt Freese, oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag moved the Americans further down the betting board following the announcement.
The sportsbook lengthened the USMNT’s odds from 80/1 to 100/1 to win the World Cup, even as several other sportsbooks shortened the Americans’ odds after the roster reveal.
“Look, at the end of the day, USA's true odds should be closer to 200/1,” BetOnline Brand Manager Dave Mason said. “We saw a lot of other books drop their odds today after the roster reveal, but we bumped them from 80/1 to 100/1. That's the best number in the world so if you want some Team USA action come and get it.”
The move places the United States alongside countries such as Turkey, Croatia, Ecuador and Senegal at 100/1 to lift the trophy.
The odds underscore the challenge facing the Americans in a tournament that will be hosted primarily in the United States, with matches also taking place in Canada and Mexico.
According to the latest odds, Spain and France are co-favorites at 5/1, followed by England at 7/1 and Brazil at 9/1. Defending world champion Argentina shares 10/1 odds with Portugal.
Other notable contenders include Germany at 16/1, Netherlands at 25/1 and emerging European power Norway at 33/1.
Among North American nations, Mexico also sits at 80/1, while Canada is listed at 200/1.
The United States enters the tournament with heightened expectations after assembling one of the deepest and most experienced player pools in program history, led by a core group competing in top European leagues. But oddsmakers remain skeptical that the Americans are ready to seriously contend with the traditional global powers.
