MILAN, Italy — The United States para ice hockey team continued its dominant start at the 2026 Winter Paralympics on Monday, March 9, defeating Germany 13-0 in preliminary round play at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.
Led by a huge performance from forward Declan Farmer, the Americans overwhelmed Germany from the opening period and never let up, improving to 2-0 in the tournament as they pursue a fifth consecutive Paralympic gold medal.
Farmer scored four goals and added three assists for a seven-point night, while Jack Wallace recorded two goals and four assists in the lopsided victory. David Eustace contributed a hat trick as the United States piled up goals throughout the game.
Farmer got the Americans started early, recording a first-period hat trick as the U.S. jumped out to a commanding lead less than halfway through the opening frame. The offensive barrage continued as the Americans scored six goals in the first period and kept pressure on Germany through the remainder of the contest.
The United States extended the margin in the second period with several quick goals, including tallies from Brett Bolton and Wallace in a 19-second span that pushed the advantage to eight goals. By the end of the second period the Americans led 11-0, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Goaltender Griffin LaMarre earned the shutout in his first career Paralympic start, facing only one shot from Germany as the U.S. defense controlled possession for most of the game. The Americans outshot Germany 41-1 in the contest.
The victory was part of another strong showing by the United States in Milan. The Americans opened the tournament with a 14-1 win over host Italy and have quickly established themselves as one of the favorites in the eight-team competition.
Germany, appearing in its first Paralympic para ice hockey tournament since 2006, struggled to keep pace with the defending champions and remained winless in group play.
With the win, the United States remained atop Group A heading into its final preliminary-round matchup against China. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals as the tournament continues through March 15.
Team USA has now outscored its first two opponents by a combined 27-1 margin, reinforcing its status as the team to beat in Milan.
