LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed infielder/outfielder Ryan Fitzgerald from the Minnesota Twins and infielder Andy Ibañez.
Fitzgerald, 31, played in 46 games with Minnesota last season, batting .196 with four homers and nine RBI. He was designated for assignment on January 2 and has spent the majority of his career in the minor leagues, spanning seven seasons, playing in 708 games with a .258 batting average and 76 homers while playing all defensive positions on the field except for catcher.
In 2025, he spent 59 games in the minors, producing a slashline of .277/.367/.469 before dealing with separate injury stints. Fitzgerald provides some much-needed infielder depth for Los Angeles and earns the title of super-utility player, having numerous starts at every position on the diamond, excluding pitcher and catcher.
With the acquisition of Fitzgerald, the Dodgers' 40-man roster is now full.
Ibañez, 32, was non-tendered by the Detroit Tigers in November, and the veteran utility man has played all five seasons in the majors with the Texas Rangers and Tigers. In 2025, he produced a slashline of .239/.301/.352 in 193 plate appearances for Detroit.
The veteran infielder has played the majority of his five years in the majors between second and third base, in addition to some starts in left field and first base. He is also out of options, and with the recent move of acquiring Fitzgerald, the Dodgers are diving deep into their infielder depth to prep for the 2026 season, most likely due to the unknown status of Tommy Edman's participation for Opening Day.
With the 40-man roster filled with Fitzgerald, the Dodgers will have to make a move in order to add Ibañez to the roster, with no official move announced as of this moment.
