INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Saturday night was a tough one for the Los Angeles Clippers, as they saw their six-game winning streak come to a crashing halt at the hands of Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics. Brown put on a show, pouring in 50 points in a dominant 146-115 victory over the Clippers, who were simply outclassed in every phase of the game.

From the opening tip, it was clear this was going to be a long night for the Clippers. The Celtics came out firing on all cylinders, shooting 63% from the floor in the first quarter and knocking down 50% of their three-point attempts. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Clippers were left trying to figure out what went wrong in a game that quickly spiraled out of control.

The Jaylen Brown Show

Brown was nothing short of spectacular, leading the Celtics to a 33-point lead in the second half and leaving the Clippers’ defense scrambling for answers. His 50-point performance came on a mix of jump shots, drives to the basket, and long-range bombs—something the Clippers had no answer for.

"I feel like I’m the best two-way player in the game," said Brown after the game. "Tonight was one of those special nights where I felt like every shot was going in."

Indeed, Brown's defense on Kawhi Leonard played a big part in the Clippers star’s struggles. Leonard, who has been on a tear during the Clippers' winning streak, couldn't find a rhythm, shooting just 6-for-17 from the field, including a cold 2-for-8 from deep. He finished with 22 points but was effectively neutralized by Brown’s length and defensive tenacity.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said after the game that Brown texted him on the plane, asking to guard Leonard. Mazzulla thanked him for his performance after the game and told him, “It was an honor coaching you tonight.”

Zubac’s Return, No Answer for Celtics’ Dominance

Ivica Zubac returned to the Clippers’ lineup after missing five games, during which the Clippers were 5-0, but his presence didn't seem to help. The Clippers fell out of rhythm, especially on offense, as the Celtics' defense dominated the paint. Zubac was unable to replicate the floor-spacing impact that Brook Lopez had during the team’s homestand. Without that floor spacing, the Clippers found themselves bogged down in the half-court, unable to attack the basket with the same fluidity they had during their streak.

Zubac played 21 minutes, coming off the bench to start the game but starting in the second half. Unfortunately for the Clippers, this lineup change didn’t translate to much success. The Celtics pulled away in the second half, and once Zubac saw more time on the court, the Clippers' deficit only grew. The Celtics’ lead ballooned to 31 points by the end of the game.

The Clippers did get a strong start from John Collins, who was electric in the first half. Collins scored 20 points in just 10 minutes of action in the opening two quarters, hitting all eight of his field goal attempts, including three from deep. However, once the second half rolled around, Collins cooled off, scoring just two points in the final 24 minutes.

Harden Struggles as Clippers’ Offense Falters

James Harden also struggled in the loss, finishing with just 18 points on 1-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Although he contributed 12 assists, his inefficient shooting was a major factor in the Clippers’ offensive woes. The Clippers’ offensive struggles were compounded by their inability to get out in transition, with only six fastbreak points and just nine second-chance points. Meanwhile, the Celtics posted 50 points in the paint, 21 second-chance points, and 15 fastbreak points, clearly outworking the Clippers on both ends.

The Clippers’ defense, which had been stellar during their winning streak, was nowhere to be found. Boston shot 24-for-51 from three-point range (47.1%), and they were able to attack the basket with ease. The Clippers allowed 113 points through three quarters, a defensive breakdown that led to a 39-point effort from Brown by the end of the third quarter.

A Tough Night for the Clippers

The Clippers had hoped to extend their winning streak to seven games but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the Celtics. With the offense stagnating and the defense unable to keep up, it was a night to forget for LA. To make matters worse, Derrick Jones Jr. suffered a knee injury early in the fourth quarter after being tangled up with Payton Pritchard. Jones Jr. appeared to be in considerable pain as he pounded the court in frustration. He’ll undergo evaluation in the coming days.

With the loss, the Clippers fall to 12-22 and will now have to regroup quickly as they prepare for a showdown with the Golden State Warriors at the Intuit Dome on Monday night. There’s no time to dwell on the defeat as the team looks to rebound and get back on track after their longest winning streak of the season came to an abrupt end.

For the Celtics, it was an impressive statement win as they continue to prove why they are one of the top teams in the league. As for the Clippers, the pressure is on as they now face an uphill battle to regain their form.
