After suffering a series loss to the Athletics on the road, the Los Angeles Angels will return home for a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds starting Monday, August 19, to open another homestand.
Below, you can find the team previews, including where to watch, game details, injury reports, and odds.
TEAM PREVIEWS
Angels: Los Angeles (60-64) followed up a thrilling series sweep against a loaded Los Angeles Dodgers team with a very disappointing outcome in Sacramento, proving no contest to the Athletics in the opening two games of the series.
The Athletics’ offense gave the Angels’ starters a run for their money. The A’s forced Yusei Kikuchi and Tyler Anderson to each give up four earned runs in only four innings of work in their respective outings on Friday and Saturday.
On the bright side, the same grit the Angels displayed against the Dodgers earlier last week came back to life in the 10th inning of the series finale on Sunday. The Angels rallied for six runs to put away the game late and avoid the sweep heading into a series against the Reds.
The Angels will start Victor Mederos in their series opener against Cincinnati on Monday. Mederos was called up last Tuesday as Tyler Anderson’s initial start got pushed back to Saturday due to back tightness. As a result of his showing, the Angels will be sticking with Mederos as their fifth starter.
Though the Angels’ offense lacked life in Sacramento, the late-game dominance on Sunday proves promise as the team shifts their focus to Cincinnati. Shortstop Zach Neto made noise in that inning, homering in that big 10th inning for his fourth homer over the last seven games. He is hitting .345 in that span.
Reds: Cincinnati (65-60) is also coming off avoiding a series sweep, as they walked off the scorching hot Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, putting an end to the Brewers’ 14-game winning streak.
The Reds currently sit just 1.5 games back of a wild card spot, trailing the New York Mets. Over the last couple of weeks, the team has been playing .500 ball as they look to catch fire heading into the home stretch of the season.
Against the Angels, the Reds will be relying on strong starters – Brady Singer, star pitcher Hunter Greene and Nick Martinez. They recently lost Chase Burns to the injury list, who had been a rookie standout this summer.
Tuesday’s start will be a homecoming for Greene, who grew up in the Los Angeles area. It will be the same for Reds second baseman and Orange native Matt McLain, who has had a down season after missing the 2024 year with injury.
