HOUSTON -- The LA Galaxy’s match against the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium was postponed following a four-hour weather delay caused by inclement weather including lightning and heavy rain.

“The match was postponed due to pitch conditions that resulted from significant rainfall in the Houston area. The match will be rescheduled at a date to be determined,” per the Galaxy.

The Dynamo initially announced the delay at 5:21 p.m. PT, just nine minutes before the scheduled 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

Despite the lightning clearing the area by 7:26 p.m. PT, allowing fans to return to their seats, ongoing field conditions — including visible standing water shown in photos and videos posted to social media by those in attendance — ultimately forced the postponement.

Videos uploaded to X, formerly known as Twitter, showed officials observing the status of the water-logged pitch just before 9 p.m. PT.

At around 9:30 p.m. PT, an in-stadium announcement read “Due to player safety concerns as a result of inclement weather in the Houston area, tonight’s match has been postponed. The match will be played at a later date.”

No rescheduled date was immediately announced.

The Galaxy will now turn their attention to Leagues Cup, where they will host Liga MX’s Xolos on Thurs. July 31, Cruz Azul on Aug. 3 and Santos Laguna on Aug. 7.
