CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy enter Wednesday's home match against Austin FC in an unfamiliar position, looking to extend their unbeaten streak to four matches and continue climbing from the Western Conference basement.
Following a 2-1 victory over D.C. United that marked their second straight victory and third consecutive win at Dignity Health Sports Park, the Galaxy (3-13-6, 15 points) have shown signs of life after a historically poor start to this season.

"Since coming off the Eastern Conference road swing, by and large, if you just look at the performances, we have been somewhat pleased," Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said following last Saturday's win. "Disappointed with the way we have given away results in certain situations or points, but in terms of performances I think have been fairly, progressively getting better over the stretch."
Austin FC presents a favorable matchup during the Galaxy's continued resurgence.
The first time these clubs met in April, Austin took all 3 points at home, a 1-0 victory.
However, LA has collected 11 points from its last six outings - a stark contrast to their MLS-record four points through the first 16 matches.
Austin is also dealing with the loss of striker Brandon Vazquez, who suffered an ACL tear during Open Cup play last week.
Though Austin (7-8-6, 25 points) currently holds the West's final playoff spot, their league-worst offense (15 goals scored) must now face a Galaxy defense that has conceded just twice in its last four matches, down a designated player.
On the other side, the Galaxy’s turnaround has been fueled by improved midfield play and defensive stability.
Vanney emphasized the work done in training while the team had a lighter schedule in June.
“In the stretch where we had two games over four weeks, we spent a lot of time and energy working on midfield play and the connection of the guys in the midfield. It's no secret that's where we lost some of the guys from last year and that's where some of our newer players are coming in this year."
Midfielder Diego Fagundez, who scored the difference making goal for LA Saturday, noted the club’s overall effort has sparked confidence in the locker room, leading to more cohesiveness on the pitch.
"I think our mistakes are showing a lot less which is helping us a lot, but at the end of the day, I think the work rate that everybody is putting in, all 11 players, is showing and that's the difference maker."

Veteran Marco Reus has been instrumental in the Galaxy's improved form, as he leads the team in both goals (5) and assists (7) in 2025. The German national’s performance against D.C. United earned him MLS Team of the Matchday honor.
The match against Austin carries added importance with El Tráfico looming this weekend.
A victory would give the Galaxy their first three-game winning streak of the season and momentum heading into the derby with LAFC, but it could also serve as a trap for Wednesday’s match against Austin.
The Galaxy will look to protect the points at home by any means while continuing to distance themselves from the bottom of the table and their nightmarish start to the season, clinging onto the hopes of a potential playoff push.
