LOS ANGELES -- The Sparks have seen this before: the injuries are piling up again. So the team decided to make a move. They signed Liatu King, who they waived during training camp, to a rest-of-season hardship contract.
King was the Sparks' third round pick (selected 28th overall) in last month's draft. The 6-foot forward averaged 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2025. Before that, she played four years for the Pittsburgh Panthers. King also played in the preseason game against the Valkyries on May 6th. She made a clutch three-pointer in that game and finished with six points and four rebounds in over five minutes of play.
The Sparks had been down to nine players before Sunday's loss to the Lynx. They started the season with Cameron Brink and Julie Allemand inactive. And then in their opening quarter of the season, they lost Rae Burrell for 6-8 weeks due to a right leg injury. Rickea Jackson also got hurt last Sunday but there has been no further status about her.
King should be active for the Sparks' next game on Wednesday in Phoenix.
