Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has unveiled its Centennial Legacy Walkway but its not to late to be a part of the commemorative project honoring the stadium’s 100-year history and the millions of fans who have passed through its gates.

Installed in the Coliseum’s Olympic Plaza, in front of the landmark Peristyle arch, the first round of the Legacy Walkway was installed last year and features more than 2,000 personalized bricks encircling the stadium logo.

The walkway is made of granite and clay pavers, including 100 engraved with “Legacy Moments” celebrating major events in Coliseum history. Among the milestones honored are the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games, Super Bowl I, an appearance by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Rolling Stones’ 1981 concerts.

“The Coliseum is fortunate to have a legacy unmatched by any other stadium in the world with over 100 years of unbelievable history,” said Joe Furin, General Manager of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. “The Coliseum Legacy Walkway is for the people of Los Angeles to recognize the great times they’ve had here with family and friends; their memory will be immortalized here for the next 100 years and beyond.”

The first brick was awarded to Dr. Art Bartner, former director of the University of Southern California’s Spirit of Troy marching band. Bartner performed at the Coliseum more than 300 times over a 50-year span, including leading the band during the 1984 Olympic Games.

Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1984, the 77,500-seat Coliseum has served as the home of USC football since 1923 and has hosted countless sporting events, concerts, and historic moments, including visits from six U.S. presidents and some of the world’s most celebrated performers. It will make history again as the only stadium to host three Summer Olympic Games, including the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Games.

The Sporting Tribune caught up with Marina Foté, assistant to the General Manager, Publicity, & Special Projects at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to find out more about the Centenial Legacy Walkway.

Can you explain what the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum’s Centennial Legacy Walkway is?

The Centennial Legacy Walkway is a celebration of over 100 years of LA Memorial Coliseum history. It is a collection of bricks in the center of the Coliseum’s Olympic Plaza dedicated to honoring historical figures, global legends, legacy moments, and members of the Los Angeles and USC community.

Where will it be located and when will it be fully installed and ready for the public to view it?

The Legacy Walkway is located in the center of the LA Coliseum’s Olympic Plaza, positioned in front of the Olympic Statues and behind its beautiful, distinctive peristyle arches.

If someone purchases a brick this month, will it be in place for the first USC home game of the season?

Yes indeed! All brick purchases in May 2025 will be in place for USC’s first 2025 home game. All bricks purchased on June 16th or earlier will be installed in Summer 2025 and available for viewing this fall. All bricks purchased June 17, 2025, or later will be installed in Summer 2026.

Will fans be told where their brick is within the Centennial Legacy Walkway so they can find it on gameday and will they get a replica of the brick to display at home?

Upon ordering a brick online at coliseumlegacy.com, fans will be able to select the “decade” in which their brick is installed. Decades throughout the walkway are defined by the “Legacy Moment” bricks placed throughout, and each decade features approximately 6 vertical rows. For instance, if you choose your brick to be installed in the 1920’s, looking at the peristyle, it will appear somewhere on the left-hand side of the walkway. If you choose your brick to be installed in the 2000’s, it will appear somewhere on the right-hand side. Replica bricks can also be ordered online, as well as a durable, sturdy brick display case!

What are the different brick options and character limits and will the bricks have a logo on them?

Both our premium (clay, brown in color) and granite (gray in color) brick packages feature 4”x8”, 8”x8”, or 8”x8” + logo options. Fans may choose between two logos: the USC interlock, or the Coliseum’s Centennial “100” logo.

Is this a one-time opportunity? Once the bricks are sold out and installed are there plans for another walkway somewhere else within the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum?

As of right now, this is a one-time opportunity to quite literally cement your legacy on LA Memorial Coliseum grounds in advance of a historic upcoming next few years of planning for and executing Los Angeles’ 2028 Olympic Games.
