San Diego FC hosted FC Dallas for their Saturday night MLS matchup at Snapdragon Stadium in hopes of getting back into the win column, having tasted defeat in their last three outings.
Last Saturday, San Diego fell 3-1 against Real Salt Lake, marking their first-ever loss at Snapdragon Stadium. This snapped their four-game home unbeaten start for the 2025 MLS season.
FC Dallas was on the opposite side of the spectrum, as their 4-3 thrilling away victory last Sunday ended Inter Miami’s unbeaten run in the MLS.
After a three-match skid, San Diego was in search of their first points in almost an entire month as their last victory came at home on April 5 in their 3-0 rout against the Seattle Sounders.
San Diego FC started on the front foot, as a dribbling run into the box by winger Alex Mighten saw him tripped up and taken down by Dallas defender Ramiro. Referee Joe Dickerson pointed to the spot in the 18-minute.
Forward Chucky Lozano took the penalty responsibility, as he slotted his attempt into the bottom left corner of the goal, giving San Diego FC the 1-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes.
Dallas goalkeeper Maarten dove to the correct side and got a hand on the shot, but didn’t get enough contact as the ball wound up bouncing in the goal.

In back-to-back matches, Lozano has been successful from the penalty spot, netting in his third goal of the season and his second penalty goal.
Lozano doubled his goal tally for the night and San Diego’s lead in the 27-minute. San Diego FC’s Anders Dreyer started the attack, finding Lozano making the run in behind with a through ball.
After meeting the through ball pass inside the top of the penalty area, Lozano rounded Dallas goalkeeper Maarten and placed the ball into the empty net for the two-goal advantage in the first half.

Lozano brought his MLS goal tally up to four goals, with all four taking place at Snapdragon Stadium.
Dreyer recorded his fourth assist of the season off Lozano’s goal.
At the 56-minute mark, Lozano returned the favor for Dreyer, as a darting counter-attack run by Lozano saw a slip in through ball for wide open Dreyer arriving in the box from a right wing position.
Dreyer took the first time left-footed attempt, curling a low shot into the left bottom corner, extending San Diego’s lead to 3-0.

The fourth goal of the MLS season for Anders Dreyer, as he and Lozano lead the club in scoring with four goals.
San Diego FC kept their foot on the gas as midfielder Onni Valakari claimed San Diego’s fourth goal of the night in the 73-minute.
After a selfless pass by Dreyer for unmarked Valakari inside the penalty box, he fired a left-footed shot off the crossbar, bouncing over the goal line, giving San Diego the 4-0 advantage.

“Three points at home, three points is the most important thing,” San Diego FC goalkeeper CJ dos Santos said. “The clean sheet is just a cherry on top. Very well done by the entire team to do everything, to get a complete game defensively, offensively, throughout the entire game.”
A memorable day for San Diego FC as their 5-0 victory not only snapped their three-match losing streak and earned them their first points in almost an entire month, but it marked the most goals scored in a match for the club and the biggest win margin of the season and in club history.
“I think the training we did this week, all the details we worked on, and all my teammates did the job they needed to do,” San Diego FC forward Chucky Lozano said. “You saw a strong team offensively and defensively out there, that's what we're after and there's always room for improvement.”
San Diego FC head coach Mikey Varas spoke at the post-match press conference on the winning result against FC Dallas and his squad’s mentality coming into and during the match.
“We're always together, united with our conviction and our effort,” Varas said. “That's what they've been doing from day one. And we went through a little bit of a rough patch and we also had good moments. And then now we bounce back. And we bounce back in a big way because we play a complete game.”
“I give Dallas a lot of credit,” Varas said. “They were very brave to come here, press us all over the field and they didn't make it easy. But our guys were able to step up to that test.”
“We want to win at home in this league," Varas said. "It's important and I don't want to understate it."
“I’ve said from the beginning we're here to win but how we win and who we win with matters,” Varas said. “So the performance was the most important thing.”
San Diego ended the night on 17 points in the Western Conference standings, claiming their fifth win of the MLS season. They also improved their home record to three victories, two draws, and a loss.
After back-to-back matches at home, San Diego FC hit the road for their visit to Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri, next Saturday for their matchup against St. Louis City SC on May 10 for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff time.
The reverse fixture for the two clubs, as the first meeting ended in a scoreless draw back on March 1 for San Diego FC’s inaugural home match.
