Apr 12, 2025; Houston, Texas, USA; Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (14) and relief pitcher Kenley Jansen (74) celebrate after the game against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park.

HOUSTON -- Taylor Ward, Nolan Schanuel, and Mike Trout lead the offensive front and a commanding start for Tyler Anderson led the Angels to a 4-1 victory over the Houston Astros to split the three-game weekend series.

The scoring bid started early for the Halos as Taylor Ward started the top half of the first with a single, followed by a Luis Rengifo double and Mike Trout was the one to drive them all in with an RBI single up the middle.

The two teams were kept quiet for some innings until the top half of the fourth when Schanuel blasted a monstrous home run, his first of his 2025 campaign, to push the Angels lead 3-0.

In the following inning, Ward would join in with a home run of his own, an oppsite shot to right and his fourth of the year, to complete the scoring for Los Angeles.

Tyler Anderson was lights out for the Halos and kept Houston on their toes as he tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, and four walks, while striking out six Astros. Angels pitching would make quick work of Houston and only allowed one run through nine innings, an Isaac Paredes solo home run in the eighth, on three hits.

The Angels improve to 9-5 and the Astros fall to 6-8 on the season. Kyle Hendricks will take the bump for the Halos and Hayden Wesneski will start for the Astros as Los Angeles looks to close out Houston in the rubber match Sunday afternoon.
