Golden Knights could clinch postseason spot tonight as they play the Oilers (Las Vegas Golden Knights)

Kalin Sipes - The Sporting Tribune

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nicolas Hague (14) skates the puck away from the Oiler's goal during NHL game against Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday Dec. 3, 2024 in Las Vegas.

The Golden Knights play the Oilers and could clinch a spot in the postseason for the seventh time in eight seasons. They could have clinched last night while they were idle if Calgary lost in regulation against the Avalanche. It looked like it was going in that direction, with Colorado up 2-0 with 9:03 left in the third period, but they ended up blowing a 2-0 lead at home and eventually losing in overtime 3-2.

So with that being said, all that needs to happen for the Golden Knights to clinch tonight per the NHLPR XTwitter account is  "If they defeat the Oilers in any fashion, or If they get one point against the Oilers AND either of the following occurs the Flames lose to Utah in any fashion, the Blues lose to the Red Wings in regulation, or if the Flames lose to Utah in regulation.

But regardless, the simplest clinching scenario is to simply win, and you're in.

 Notes

The Golden Knights in March went 10-2-2.

Jack Eichel is on a six-game point streak and has put up 13 points (6G, 7A) during that stretch.

Last Game

The Golden Knights finished their three-game road trip with a 3-1 win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena. Adin Hill had 23 saves in between goals to pick up his 29th win of this season.
