CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy will face a trio of Liga MX opponents in the group stage of the 2025 Leagues Cup, as the tournament announced its Phase One schedule on Tuesday. The Galaxy, the defending MLS Cup champions, will host Club Tijuana, Cruz Azul, and Santos Laguna at Dignity Health Sports Park this summer.

The Galaxy’s Leagues Cup campaign kicks off on Thursday, July 31, against Club Tijuana, followed by a clash with Cruz Azul on Sunday, Aug. 3. They will wrap up Phase One action on Thursday, Aug. 7, against Santos Laguna in the first match of a doubleheader at Dignity Health Sports Park. Cruz Azul will also face the Colorado Rapids in the second game of the Aug. 7 doubleheader.

The 2025 Leagues Cup, sanctioned by Concacaf, will feature all 18 Liga MX clubs and 18 qualified MLS teams competing in a revamped format. Phase One, running from July 29 to Aug. 7, will consist of three matches per club, with all games pitting MLS teams against Liga MX opponents. The top four teams from each league’s standings will advance to the knockout rounds, which begin with the quarterfinals and feature exclusively interleague matchups.

As defending MLS Cup champions, the Galaxy will have venue privileges throughout the knockout stage, ensuring home-field advantage if they advance. Liga MX champions Club América and Cruz Azul, the highest-ranked Liga MX team in the Leagues Cup rankings, will also have venue privileges, except in matches against the Galaxy.

The tournament’s new format introduces a league-specific points system, where MLS and Liga MX teams earn points in separate tables based on their performances against each other. The top four teams from each league’s table will advance to the quarterfinals, ensuring more interleague matchups in the knockout rounds.
