LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Sparks announced on Tuesday that they are parting ways with head coach Curt Miller after he spent the last two seasons in Los Angeles.

With the season ending, the Sparks are now seeking a new leader in the locker room following a disappointing season.

The Sparks had higher expectations this season despite winning 17 games in 2023, his first year with LA.

“On behalf of our ownership group and franchise, I would like to thank Coach Miller for his passion and commitment to the Sparks organization these past two seasons,” Governor and Managing Partner Eric Holoman said. “We wish him well moving forward.”

Los Angeles finished the season with the worst record in the league, an 8–32 record. Their .200 winning percentage was the worst mark in franchise history.

This was the first time they had won fewer than 10 games in a season, even though they had two of the top four picks in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Cameron Brink, who was drafted second overall behind Caitlin Clark, tore her ACL in June after playing 15 games.

In 2024, there was considerable inconsistency in player rotations and lack of accountability under Miller's leadership. Postgame conferences saw Miller consistently praising players despite poor performances.

The Sparks have now missed the playoffs in a franchise record four consecutive seasons and they'll look to get back on track under some new leadership in 2025.

Miller concluded his time in Los Angeles after two seasons, during which the team achieved a record of 25–55 and failed to make the playoffs in both years.

Before coaching the Sparks, Miller was the coach of the Connecticut Sun from 2016 to 2022 and also served as an assistant coach with the Sparks before 2016.

Miller also reached 150 regular season wins, becoming the fifth-fastest coach in league history to reach the milestone.

"I want to thank the entire Sparks organization for the opportunity to lead and help rebuild the franchise,” said Curt Miller. “I am proud of the culture created in our locker room and strongly believe the roots have been established for a bright future. The team is now positioned for success and I wish the players the best heading into the 2025 season."

Despite having the worst record in the WNBA, the Sparks have the best odds of landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. One of the best players in college this upcoming season is Connecticut guard Paige Bueckers. The Sparks will immediately start a new search for a head coach.
