Angels call up No. 7 overall prospect to make Thursday start taken Angel Stadium (Los Angeles Angels)

Rocket City Trash Pandas

ANAHIEM, Calif. — The Angels have a multitude of injuries to their pitching staff so they were no strangers to making another move to their pitching staff Wednesday.

The team brought up No. 7 overall prospect right-hander Jack Kochanowicz to start Thursday to start vs. the Mariners. He was a 2019 3rd-round pick.

The Angels also optioned Davis Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake following Monday's performance (seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings). Kenny Rosenberg was recalled to the big-league ball club to help with long-relief duties.

Kochanowicz makes debut

Kochanowicz has been a solid prospect for the Angels over the last few seasons and he gets his shot to try and help the big-league ball club after four-plus years in the minors. Ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the Angels system, Kochanowicz has a 4.50 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 91 innings for Double-A Rocket City this season.

He has pitched better as of late, including multiple complete games over the last three weeks where he gave up one earned run or less. Kochanowicz has allowed four earned runs over his last 27 innings, had a 3.12 ERA in 26 innings in June and has a 1.93 ERA in July through 14 innings.

He boasts a nasty two-seam fastball that can get into the upper 90's and got rid of a slower curve in favor of an effective sweeper last year.

Daniel sent down

Daniel burst on the scene a few weeks ago with a stellar MLB debut, throwing eight shutout innings against the Athletics. He has since cooled down, allowing four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Though Daniel's stay in Triple-A may be temporary, he will join a Bee's rotation that includes Reid Detmers, Jose Suarez, Chase Silseth and Zach Plesac.

Rosenberg called up

Kenny Rosenberg was recalled to the Angels to help in case of long-relief for Wednesday's game but no spot start for him is evident at this moment. He may be sent back to Triple-A after Wednesday's game, but he is no stranger to the Angels roster.

Rosenberg had an impressive 3.82 ERA in 33 innings in 2023 but has yet to make his team debut this season. He also has pitched well for the Bees this season, boasting a 3.74 ERA with 67 strikeouts and 24 walks in 77 innings.
