USC women’s paint presence outmatches Fresno State, extend winning streak to five
LOS ANGELES — Kiki Iriafen scored 24 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and JuJu Watkins scored 21 to lead USC (9-1) to an 89-40 nonconference victory Tuesday over Fresno State (7-4) before 3,081 at Galen Center.
USC’s interior offense was on full display versus Fresno State, outscoring the Bulldogs 42-4 in the paint. The combination of Kiki Iriafen and Rayah Marshall did the majority of the damage themselves, combining for 25 rebounds, while USC had 48 total. Fresno State finished with 20 rebounds.
Watkins continued her Player of the Year case with her 8th straight game of 20 points or more. Watkins' eight-game scoring streak is the longest in her collegiate career.
The Women of Troy extended their winning streak to five games. USC’s 49-point win is the largest in program history against Fresno State.
At halftime, USC led 46-20.
Fresno State struggled to find a rhythm from the field, shooting 27%. The Bulldogs scored 14 points between the second and third quarters.
USC limited the turnovers to 12, with 21 assists. The Trojans are averaging 16.6 turnovers per game. Defensively, the Trojans took advantage of the Bulldogs’ 21 turnovers, scoring 23 points in transition.
Kayleigh Heckel scored 9 points, and Rayah Marshall scored 7, 13 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
Mia Jacobs scored 11 points, and Holl Griffiths scored 11 off the bench.
