Takeaways from the Clippers 117-106 loss to the Rockets
INGLEWOOD, Calif.-- — The Clippers just didn’t have enough with so many injuries as the Houston Rockets beat them 117-106 on Sunday night. This is the second straight loss at home for Los Angeles after winning the previous nine. The Clippers are now 14-11 after the loss. Next up for the Clippers is a much another four days off before they matchup with the Nuggets on Friday night in Denver.
Here are some takeaways from the Clippers loss to the Rockets:
Shorthanded Clips come up short
James Harden was a late scratch due to a groin injury he suffered in the previous game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is listed as day-to-day according to coach Tyronn Lue.
Harden’s name is now a part of the list of injured players for the Clippers. Without the team’s ‘quarterback on Sunday night, things didn’t go well. To make things worse starting forward Derrick Jones Jr. left the game after playing only 12 minutes due to right hamstring soreness.
Though the remainder of the roster that was available in this game performed at a high level, it just wasn’t enough.
The offense struggled with no Harden and the defense suffered with no Jones in the lineup.
The Clippers is a team that will play hard no matter who is on the floor but at the end of the day a healthy roster is needed to be successful in the NBA.
The Rockets took advantage of the shorthanded roster and picked up the win.
Bones goes to work
Bones Hyland is a player that Clipper fans favor but that hasn’t been the same for the coaching staff.
Hyland has been the last player on the bench for Los Angeles most of the year. He has seen action in less than half of the team’s games.
Hyland has seen an uptick in minutes the past two games with so many injuries and he is playing well.
In the loss to the Rockets he played 28 minutes scoring a team-high 22 points. He went 5-for-10 from 3 to help Los Angeles keep the game competitive.
The fourth-year pro is looking to prove to the Clippers that he can play and compete and hoping to possibly earn minutes even when the roster is healthier.
Houston has had no problem with the Clippers
The Rockets have had no issues dealing with the Clippers this season.
Houston is no 3-0 after the win over the Clippers on Sunday night. The Clippers are one of the better defensive teams in the NBA but the Rockets have found ways to score and score a lot against Los Angeles. In each of their wins, Houston has scored 111 points or more.
They average 117.6 points per game against Los Angeles this season. The Clippers only allow 107.4 points per game this season which places them 5th in the NBA.
Jalen Green led the Rockets with 31 points in the latest win while Amen Thompson added 22 points and Dillion Brooks chipped in with 19.
The all-around attack has proven to be too much for the Clippers and Sunday night was no different.
The Clippers won’t see the Rockets again until April 9th and hopefully Los Angeles will be more prepared for Houston.
