Anaheim Ducks Hometown Remix

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Exactly one month and 34 years ago, a ragtag group of Twin Cities youth hockey players led by their coach putting off a DUI conviction by serving community service rallied their way to the Minnesota peewee state championship.

One year later, an NHL team bearing their name took to the ice changing the face of hockey merchandising and marketing.

Now, all those years later, their powers combine fully, as the Anaheim Ducks look back to their fictionalized Mighty District 5 roots for the release of Fanatics and the NHL’s Hometown Remix uniform program.

The league-wide initiative showcases special new uniforms for all 32 NHL teams that “uniquely and authentically celebrate the fans, city, and local culture of each team.”

For the Ducks’ entry, they’ve dove into the local culture of their Anaheim neighbors and former owners by remixing their current branding and logos with the colors of the original Disney Mighty Ducks movies.

"Inspired by the fresh green of the parks we love to roam and the gold of our sunsets over the water, this jersey is an homage to the good life of Orange County," per the NHL press release. "The waterfront lifestyle is reflected in the wave pattern on the hem. And the uniform also features the “flying V” sleeve design of the current home jersey for pure Ducks style."

The jersey features a bright green base with purple, yellow and black striping, akin to those District 5 sweaters worn by Charlie Conway, Adam Banks, Fulton Reed, Connie Moreau and the rest of the Ducks crew.

The jerseys are accompanied by purple helmets, pants and gloves–no, they will not be straight movie cosplays with red gloves–with yellow and green accents.

Anaheim is slated to wear these Hometown Remix uniforms 10 times this season, with their on-ice debut in back-to-back games at Honda Center next Sunday, Nov. 8, against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nov. 11 against the Nashville Predators.

Hometown Remix nights will also feature a special remix of the Ducks’ goal song, “Coming for You” from Orange County legends The Offspring.

Merchandise is on sale now at AnaheimTeamStore.com, and will be available in person at the ARTIC Team Store location across Katella from Honda Center at 10 a.m. Pacific.

It’s the latest in a recent run of the team leaning into the original Mighty Ducks’ lineage.

For many of the early years of the Mighty Ducks NHL franchise, they were derided as that Disney team–a literal “Mickey Mouse franchise.” Despite that, they never really dipped the NHL franchise into the entertainment franchise, aside from the name itself.

Sure, the movie Mighty Ducks wore the NHL team’s jerseys in the sequels D2 and D3, and the anthropomorphic ducks of the Mighty Ducks animated series wore the same sweaters as the NHL franchise (and made their home at Honda Center, including their headquarters underneath center ice).

However, outside of Paul Kariya’s cameo in D3, the real Ducks never crossed over with the fictional ones. (We will all collectively mindhole Troy Terry, Trevor Zegras and Max Jones’ cameos in the Disney+ series Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which Disney has already done everyone a favor and deleted its existence. (There was a second season? Cam Fowler was in it? I don’t believe you.))

Now, between last season’s Coach Gordon Bombay victory jacket and the inclusion of the Itech bubble visor on this year’s victory helmet specifically for “movie vibes” to the integration of Disneyland as this season’s helmet sponsor and these Hometown Remix sweaters, the nostalgia train has completed the loop all the way back to the station of origin.
