LOS ANGELES — The Milwaukee Brewers may have dominated Major League Baseball in 2026, winning 103 regular season games and capturing the World Series with an impressive 11-2 postseason record, but oddsmakers still believe the Los Angeles Dodgers are the team to beat in 2027.
Despite being swept by Milwaukee in the National League Championship Series and falling short of becoming the first team in more than 25 years to win three consecutive World Series titles, the Dodgers have opened as the favorites to win the 2027 championship, according to BetOnline Sports & Casino.
Los Angeles leads all 30 MLB teams with 13/4 odds (+325), followed by the defending champion Brewers at 5/1 and the New York Yankees at 15/2 (+750).
The Boston Red Sox are fourth at 12/1, followed by the Seattle Mariners at 18/1 and Philadelphia Phillies at 20/1.
The Dodgers' position atop the betting board reflects the expectations surrounding a franchise that has established itself as one of baseball's premier organizations, with a star-studded roster, significant financial resources and a willingness to aggressively pursue championships.
Led by Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and a collection of high priced stars, the Dodgers entered the 2026 season attempting to accomplish something that had not been done since the Yankees won three consecutive World Series championships from 1998 through 2000.
Instead, Milwaukee ended those dreams with a four-game sweep in the NLCS before completing one of the most dominant seasons in recent baseball history.
The Brewers combined exceptional player development, intelligent roster construction, outstanding defense and disciplined hitting with a formidable pitching staff to win their first World Series championship.
Milwaukee's success was particularly remarkable considering the team's preseason expectations. The Brewers opened the 2026 season at 20/1 to win the World Series, making their championship run even more impressive.
After winning 103 games during the regular season, Milwaukee lost just twice in 13 postseason games, finishing with an overall record of 114-61 across the regular season and playoffs.
Yet even that level of dominance wasn't enough to convince oddsmakers to make the Brewers favorites to repeat.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, have become accustomed to entering seasons with championship expectations. Their ability to spend aggressively in free agency, retain established stars and develop young talent has helped create a sustained championship window that few organizations can match.
While the Brewers proved that a team built through scouting, development and smart trades can outperform baseball's biggest spenders, the Dodgers remain the betting favorites to reclaim their place atop the sport.
The gap between the two teams is significant. Los Angeles' +325 odds represent an implied probability of approximately 23.5% to win the championship, compared with 16.7% for Milwaukee at 5/1. Those figures do not account for the sportsbook's built-in margin.
Elsewhere in Southern California, the San Diego Padres are tied for ninth in the championship odds at 25/1, alongside the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians.
The Los Angeles Angels face considerably longer odds at 200/1, tied with the San Francisco Giants near the bottom of the betting board. Only the Colorado Rockies, listed at 500/1, have longer odds to win the 2027 World Series.
The New York Mets, who have also invested heavily in building a championship contender, are listed at 22/1, tied with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The early odds illustrate how difficult it can be for even a defending World Series champion to maintain its place atop baseball's hierarchy.
Milwaukee will enter 2027 attempting to become the first team since the Dodgers in 2024 and 2025 to win consecutive World Series titles. Los Angeles, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing postseason and capture its third championship in four seasons.
For now, the Brewers have the trophy, but the Dodgers remain the favorites to win the next one.
