ARLINGTON, Tex. - Baseball can be a funny thing. One night you can score 18 runs, and the next you can be held scoreless through nine full innings.

That's the situation the Los Angeles Angels found themselves in against the Texas Rangers on Friday, though they likely weren't laughing after taking a scoreless game into the 10th inning before falling 2-1 to the Rangers.

Detmers Deals Again

Reid Detmers was on the mound for Los Angeles and he delivered yet another stellar start, going six innings without allowing a run while allowing six hits and one walk while striking out five.

It was Detmer's seventh-straight start of allowing three earned runs-or-less, but in a recurring theme for the southpaw, the Angels offense didn't show up for him and he left the game once again with a no-decision.

While Detmers and the three Angels relievers that followed him through the ninth inning held the Rangers to a zero on the scoreboard, Mackenzie Gore and his staff did the same thing for the Rangers.

The Angels managed just three hits in the game, only two through nine innings, and as the game headed into extras it remained tied 0-0.

Guzman Drives One In

It was in the 10th when the bats on both sides finally showed some life. Denzer Guzman led off the 10th inning with a double that drove in Jose Siri, the Angels' designated runner on second base, in for the first run of the game on either side to put the Angels ahead 1-0.

That was the only run the Angels would manage, but with flamethrower Ben Joyce coming in to close the game, things looked to be going well for the Halos.

Joyce got the first two outs easily enough, forcing Justin Foscue to fly out to right field and striking out Texas slugger Corey Seager with four straight fastballs that each sat 101 MPH or higher, but the Rangers weren't done yet.

Texas Sneaks Through

Wyatt Langford went opposite field and doubled down the right field line to drive in Evan Carter, the Texas designated runner, from second and tie the game 1-1, and he followed that up by intentionally walking Brandon Nimmo to create a force out at three bases.

Ezeuquiel Duran ripped a one-hopper straight to Guzman, who made a diving stop that would have saved the walk-off run from scoring.

But just as Guzman was instrumental in putting the Angels ahead in the top of the 10th, he was also the face to blame for how they lost the game.

After making the stop, Guzman hopped up and fired to second base to try and get an out, but his throw went wide of Oswald Peraza and scuttled into the outfield to allow Langford to score on the error and win the game for the Rangers.

It was Joyce's first blown save of the season. Now the Angels looked ahead to Saturday's game with Ryan Johnson on the mound.
