The flight back home is going to be one of serious soul searching for the Vegas Golden Knights.
On Tuesday, the struggles continued as the Golden Knights came up short against the Dallas Stars 2-1.
After a scoreless first period, the Golden Knights were able to take advantage of an excellent stretch of play. Taking the puck from Wyatt Johnston, Ivan Barbashev was able to keep the Golden Knights in the offensive zone. The ensuing play would see Jack Eichel fire his 23rd goal of the season past Jake Oettinger for the first goal of the game.
However, the Stars would come roaring back after a play that saw the fourth line beat the Vegas defense, finished off by Oskar Back to tie the game at a goal apiece.
Later, the Stars’ second-ranked power play got to work. Brayden McNabb attempted to clear the puck, but it never was able to cross the blue line. Eventually, Jamie Benn got a shot past Adin Hill to secure the first lead of the game for the home team.
It would be the final goal scored, as Oettinger and the Stars closed the door on the Golden Knights in the third period.
The downward spiral continues for the Golden Knights, who now fall to 2-6-0 in their last eight games and have only scored 13 goals in their last seven, with the playoff push effectively on pause.
The upcoming four-game homestand has basically turned into one of the utmost importance for the Golden Knights, who hope to finally get back to banking points against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.
