It was a historic night at Levi's Stadium, as a record crowd of 50,978 watched on as LAFC earned a thrilling 4-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday evening. Surpassing the previous mark of 50,850, the match will go down as the most-watched in 'Quakes regular season history.
Denis Bouanga cemented himself amongst the company of another Black and Gold all-time great, using a hat-trick performance to match Carlos Vela for the most goals in the history of the club. Two of those scores came in the opening 12 minutes, as Bouanga and Son Heung-min showcased their attacking magic to make a major statement early.
"I am very happy to tie Carlos for LAFC," said Bouanga following the victory. "I don't have the words to describe this feeling. I am very happy."
Son got Los Angeles on the board less than one minute after the opening whistle was blown, taking a perfect ball from Artem Smolyakov and depositing it into the net with ease. It was the second LAFC score for the Korean icon, with a packed stadium immediately getting a glimpse of exactly what they paid to see.

Perhaps inspired by Son's opening fireworks, Bouanga one-upped his lethal attacking partner in a matter of mere minutes. San Jose defender Daniel Munie committed a costly error, leaving the ball too far out in front of him as he tried to progress deeper into Los Angeles territory.
Bouanga turned defense into offense, swiping the ball from Munie and exploding up the sideline the other way. Nobody could catch him as he fired a rocket that whirred by goalkeeper Daniel's left side to double the LAFC advantage.
Just three minutes later, lightning struck again. This time, from the right side of the pitch, the 30-year-old boasted his finesse with a chip shot that sailed over Daniel and dropped into the net. 3-0 in just 12 minutes time.

A nightmare start for the Earthquakes was temporarily remedied in the 18th minute, with Preston Judd maneuvering deep in the box through the Los Angeles defense to take a feed from Chico Arango and make it 3-1.
This would remain the score until the culminating minutes of the contest, where Bouanga completed his hat trick in the 87th minute to match Vela. Some excellent transition play saw a deep ball land in the safekeeping of Sergei Palencia, who left it cleanly over the middle to pick up the assist on a historic moment.

It was the second hat trick of the month for the Gabonese forward, who scored three in Gabon's 4-0 victory over Seychelles on September 3. Bouanga is now only two goals away from becoming the first player in MLS history to score 20 regular-season goals in three consecutive seasons.
Following a final score from San Jose in the 90th minute on an own goal via Palencia, the 4-2 result went official. LAFC picked up a much-needed three points on the road, doing so in a historic road environment on the back of their two marquee playmakers.

Improving to 12-8-7, Los Angeles has climbed within a single point of Seattle for the fourth spot in the Western Conference. With the pursuit of a top-four spot only expected to intensify as the regular season reaches its final stretch, Saturday's result has the potential to be a significant momentum boost.
LAFC will remain on the road, with their next stop in Utah for a battle with Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, September 17. Salt Lake, at 10-4-14, sits just one point out of the coveted nine seed in the West that would guarantee them a shot at the playoffs.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT.
