Dodgers promote No.3 prospect Alex Freeland; Hyeseong Kim placed on injured list

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Alex Freeland and placed infielder Hyeseong Kim on the injured list with left shoulder bursitis. 

Freeland, 23, was ranked No.3 in the Dodgers' farm system and 35th overall in MLB's Top 100 Baseball Prospects. He appeared in 93 games for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets, slashing .253/.377/.421 with 12 homers and 71 RBI. 

The switch-hitter who rotates from shortstop to third baseman has been with the Dodgers since being selected in the third round of the 2022 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Central Florida. During his time in the minors, he has played in a combined total of 344 minor league games, batting .253 with 42 homers and 208 RBI while playing three defensive positions.     

The 23-year-old will take on the role of manning the left side of the infield with key defensive pieces missing, such as Max Muncy and Kiké Hernández. A few updates on Muncy and Hernández, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has confirmed that Hernández has not begun any baseball activities just yet, but Muncy will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday afternoon with OKC and start at third base, along with having three ABs.

According to Roberts, Freeland will take up the third base position for Los Angeles, mostly, with the possibility of playing some second base, a position in which he has only played once during his time in the minors, and will possibly be given a few opportunities at shortstop. Freeland will start at third base for the Dodgers tomorrow. 

Kim, 26, has been playing through this shoulder injury, which has affected his production at the plate. In his 10 games, he went 4-for-26 with an OPS of .308; however, in 2025, he is batting .304 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 58 games this season.
