Dodgers: The Dodgers (56-38) are sitting five games ahead of the Giants in the National League West, even after suffering their sixth consecutive loss on a walk-off winner by Brewers' outfielder Jackson Chourio on Wednesday afternoon, which secured the series sweep over Los Angeles for Milwaukee. Still, the Dodgers are looking at high hopes as they look to finish the first half of the 2025 season on a high note and bring some momentum after the break.
The injury bug has tagged yet another crucial bullpen piece for Los Angeles. This time, it was a non-arm injury, as right-handed flamethrower Michael Kopech was transferred to the 60-day injured list, the corresponding move for Tyler Glasnow to appear on Wednesday afternoon, and it was announced in the post-game that Kopech had undergone surgery to repair his right meniscus.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has stated that they expect Kopech to return to the Dodgers in the latter half of the season.
In rehab news, two pitchers underwent rehab assignments: Blake Snell pitching for Rancho Cucamonga and Blake Treinen pitching for Oklahoma City, respectively. Blake Snell tossed two scoreless innings while striking out four on 31 pitches Thursday afternoon for the Quakes, and Blake Treinen opened for OKC on Wednesday afternoon, tossing one scoreless inning while striking out two on 18 pitches.
Giants: San Francisco (51-43) is coming off a decent slew of games so far (6-4 in their last 10 games played), which includes a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Giants are also revamping their selves back up as they had recently reinstated third baseman Matt Chapman from the injured list on July 6 after missing 23 games with a right hand sprain, and have also welcomed back first baseman Casey Schmitt on Monday after landing on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation.
San Francisco is sending a trio of pitchers to the Midsummer Classic in Atlanta, the first time the Giants have sent three or more players to the All-Star Game since 2021, which includes aces Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and reliever Randy Rodríguez.
