Sep 17, 2024; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Alexis Diaz (43) prepares to pitch in the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves at Great American Ball Park.

Ahead of game two in Milwaukee, the Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled former all-star right-handed pitcher Alexis Díaz and optioned right-handed pitcher Julian Fernández.

Díaz, 28, was acquired on May 29 from the Cincinnati Reds after a slow start to his 2025 season in exchange for minor league pitcher Mike Villani. He made six appearances for Oklahoma City, going 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings, and was also 0-0 with a 12.00 ERA in six games for the Reds this year.

He was a National League All-Star in 2023, going 9-6 with a 3.07 ERA with 37 saves in a career-high 71 games.

Manager Dave Roberts said that Díaz's performance was good in Triple-A, but the command was not where it should be. In those 4.2 innings pitched, he walked seven batters.

He is in his fourth Major League season, and he is 75-for-86 in save opportunities with a 3.21 ERA in 196 games. The Dodgers hope that Díaz can provide a consistent presence in the bullpen as they have him under team control until 2027.

Fernández, 29, pitched last night, allowing two runs in two innings. He is 3-0 with a 4.08 ERA in 24 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He made his Major League debut in 2021 with Colorado, posting a 10.80 ERA with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. He originally signed with the Rockies as an international free agent on July 2, 2012, out of Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.

In other news, Landon Knack joined Díaz in Milwaukee as a taxi role for tomorrow to ensure that the bullpen will be good for Tyler Glasnow's start in the series finale. There have not been any corresponding moves at this time regarding Knack's return.

With Clayton Kershaw coming off his longest outing in two years, throwing 100 pitches, and the unpredictability of how Glasnow's return to the mound will go, the move of calling up Knack is a cautious one. It provides the Dodgers with an extra bullpen arm if things go south.
