CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy (1-6-13, 9 pts) return to Dignity Health Sports Park for a clash with the Vancouver Whitecaps, on July 4, which marks the 29th regular season match played on Independence Day in club history.

While there will be plenty fireworks postgame, the Galaxy are in desperate need of fireworks on the pitch as the club has just one victory in MLS play in 2025.

Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney pointed out the team’s inability to close matches out as of late, including last week’s Cali Clasico draw.

“We’ve allowed ourselves for different reasons, situations, things like that, to squander some points over the last eight games,” Vanney said. “I think our form has come around a little bit more in the last eight games as Marco (Reus) has gotten healthier and he’s playing at a higher level and Gabe (Pec) and Joe (Paintsil) are healthy… there’s certainly some positives and now it’s about results.”

At this point in the season every point matters if the Galaxy even want to have a chance at the postseason, but Vanney knows he and the club have no easy task ahead of them Friday.

“This will be a very organized game against a team that’s going to be methodical,” Vanney said. “I think it’s a good opportunity for us to focus on ourselves and make sure that we’re doing the collective things right.”

What to know: Vancouver Whitecaps

The Vancouver Whitecaps (11-5-3, 38 pts) currently sit second in the Western Conference, just one point behind first place San Diego FC, following a 1-0 victory over LAFC last week.

Friday marks the Whitecaps second consecutive match in Southern California and the second of five straight road matches for Vancouver.

Last week, the Whitecaps announced a league-leading four selections for the MLS All-Star Game vs the Liga MX All Stars on July 23.

Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter and forward Brian White all earned an All-Star nod while the Galaxy will not be represented at the All-Star Game this season.

Berhalter, 24 and White, 29, have particularly stood out for Vancouver in 2025, with a combined 15 goal contributions between the two.

Both were key pieces during Vancouvers Concacaf Champions Cup run, where the Whitecaps finished as runners-up, each earning Best XI selections.

Luckily for LA, Berhalter is at the Gold Cup with the USMNT.

The Whitecaps also defeated the Galaxy at BC Place earlier this season, a 2-1 result that encapsulated much of 2025 for LA. Back in March Vancouver scored early before LA fought back to equalize, only to concede late and drop the points on the road.

Betting Odds

The Galaxy are +161 on the Moneyline per Action Network, with the over/under set at 2.5 goals.

The over could be the play to make for this match, as the Galaxy have netted 6 goals in their last five matches, while the Whitecaps have scored 8 goals in their last five.

Friday marks the first of three consecutive home matches for a Galaxy team in desperate need for points, starting with a Whitecaps squad that has amassed nearly 30 more points in MLS.
